The drive is formatted FAT32, and works fine in windows. I also got this problem with another USB HD I tried, so I'm pretty sure it's not a hardware thing.

Does anyone know what those 32 and 71 error codes mean?

any help appreciated:(

Re: USB drive won't work

Noone?

there's at least a few people out there with a similar problem:
http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=63126
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=991613

I'm currently working around it by unloading ehci_hcd, but now I'm stuck at usb1 speeds

can anyone offer any insight into this????

Re: USB drive won't work

turned out BOTH the usb leads on each of my hard drives were faulty!

talk about unlucky!

replaced the leads, and I now get no problems

Re: USB drive won't work

Perhaps the mobo has insufficient current to drive the USB device.

Perhaps adding a USB 2.0 card to the system will solve the difficulty.
