Thank you guys~ this post is updated! 2 more notification works now~~
---------------
Hi,
I was trying to get notify-osd work as same as it works on ubuntu.
these works fine:
the volume notify-osd
notify-osd for the music player, (I use listen as my music player)
network-manager-notify-osd works fine.
pidgin notification ("purple-plugin-pack","manually active the 'libnotify-popup' plugin")
firefox download finished (it's new in karmic) (it needs a firefox addon, firefoxnotify)
and here are what doesn't work~
brightness (this is related to gnome-power-manager)
gnome-mount-notification
(brightness)gnome-power-manager-notify-osd is out of date already in AUR, the patch doesn't work for the new gnome-power-manager. (it doesn't work on ubunt karmic alpha4 either right now, but it works fine on karmic Alpah3 and Jaunty)
I don't quite remember if ubuntu has gnome-mount-notification. (but it just doesn't work)
I really like notify-osd and hope that notify-osd will work perfect on Archlinux! So, please work together and make it better.
I would like to help~ even though I don't know much about patching, I would like to learn and help to make it.
Thank you guys!

Have you tried notify-osd-bzr ? It's the development version of it, so, it might include what is appearing in Ubuntu 9.10.

I've been using Notify-osd aswell in Arch, and here's my experience:
What works for you works for me - except I use Rhythmbox and not listen;
Pidgin works sometimes... Can't really figure out when..
Brightness is also failing here - same reason as you;
For firefox I got this: "FirefoxNotify" - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/9622 Works wonders with notify-osd.
I've got no OSD for gnome-mount too. I'm not sure how it's done in Ubuntu, but I can check that tomorrow.
One other thing I'm missing is Evolution support. the new mail pop-up is really annoying...

Just one more thing - I've figured pidgin out - it requires a plugin named Libnotify Popups.
You can install the plugin package from pacman - "purple-plugin-pack".

I haven't tried it yet, but comparing both packages, it seems that notify-osd-bzr is a bit behind notify-osd in the AUR... I could be wrong tough...

No, the bzr/git/svn/cvs/darcs/hg packages are always the development releases (before they are released). So it isn't behind it.

I figured that out too later. yup~ we need "purple-plugin-pack" to get it work.
the plugin for notification in pidgin is not active. the plugin is "libnotify notify"

Hey guys, do you use checkgmail? I managed to change original version so that it now uses notify-osd for new mails, BUT you can still use all the great functions like marking messages as read or deleting them. Check it out: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=29779. Here's little screenshot for you: http://tinyurl.com/kvdzkl. Let me know if everythings works fine and if you like it ![]()
