Incompatible Browser
We're sorry, but it appears that you are using an incompatible system. To play QUAKE LIVE you must use one of the following Operating Systems and Web Browsers:
thats what i get with i686 and Firefox from extra

Doesn't work for me. I'm using the unbranded Firefox 3.5, aka Shiretoko, and the website says that my browser is incompatible.
Edit: i686 here.

works with downloaded firefox from firefox website but not with the one from extra

I have firefox-pgo (x86_64) and it works just fine. I think it just needs the official Firefox branding and not to be called Shiretoko. The firefox-branded package should work too, and it only takes a few minutes to compile. Firefox-pgo, well that takes longer than that
So just install firefox-branded or firefox-pgo from AUR and it should work

You may use Shiretoko too, just go to about:config and change general.useragent.extra.firefox to Firefox/3.5.2
Everything works fine ![]()

Thanks corristo. ![]()
Hopefully this works well on Intel GMA X4500HD.
My Gentoo box with a Radeon 4850 running with barely working 3d in the the open source driver didn't quite cut it. Performance was fine, the screen was just completely corrupted.

wOah! Just played on ff 3.6a1 and it runs good. Thought for a browser game this might be a bit hacky but alot like playing Quake 3 maybe a bit better. Nice job id.

I had problems with the browser detection:
about:config in adress-bar
filter: general.useragent.extra.firefox
change to: Firefox/3.5.2

Which also fixes online email clients like Hotmail/Yahoo by the way.

I get around 40-60 fps on my integrated Radeon HD 3200 (and it runs choppy on my native res 1280x1024). Funny, because Quake 3 with the exact same config runs at 125 fps.
Is anyone getting better results?
According to the Quake Live forums this is a common problem... ![]()

Are you using OSS?

Here it works great! 125fps, nvidia 8600M, althought it only allows 1024x768 dunno why.

nice, but the game runs very slow compared to ioquake3. Hope they'll get that ironed out over time.

I've been getting frequent crashes while navigating the menus that pop up when ESC is pressed.. Anybody else?
Playing fullscreen 1680x1050 on nvidia 8800 ultra, 64 bit.

yep it works great, faster navigation and game start than in windows.
I been having crashes when using game settings in-game, but when setting it in the web-game-settings all is ok

Honestly, Linux has not gained any more market share in the past few years. Mac OS X has, not Linux.
Since you're bringing it up, perhaps providing evidence from a reputable source of your refutation would be more useful than simple contradiction. Whether or not you are correct, his suggestion about ubuntu increasing the "linux market share" in recent times is at least plausible. Which is not to say I wouldn't appreciate proof of it as well, however
. I suspect I'm not the only one who would appreciate knowing what's really going on beyond forum speculation, provided those giving a voice on the matter wish to share.

Turning off "Post Processing" helped my framerate, but it is still far below Quake 3 (ioquake), which runs optimally with the exact same config file. ![]()
Yes, I and a lot of other people on 64 bit linux have the problem that the game crashes when you click on the 'intermediate settings' menu.. (see quakelive forums...)
I really hope they get the issue with the framerate fixed...
