Hello!
I installed Arch x86_64 on my laptop. All devices work fine. But after suspending to ram or disk, sound just disappeared. OS thinks that, sound is still exists, but I can't hear any sound.
Reboot can help but this is not a solution. Please help me

Using alsa? Did you check alsa mixer settings? (A simple mute/unmute issue, maybe?)

I'm using ALSA. After resuming, using alsamixer has no effect. All needed channels is unmuted and has 100% level. Sound doesn't work even in console (using player moc), so problem isn't in Desktop Environment I think.
I have no idea, what I must to do...

Have you read the wiki and set the "model" option for your sound card? I have no problems suspending to RAM (I've never tried suspending to disk) and I'm using ALSA, too.
http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Del … probe.conf
I use the option that is above, "dell-bios", but another user had a problem with it and uses the one below. Try both and see if it helps.

I have problems decribed in 1st post if I use the model=3stack
When I use model=dell-bios, I have no problems with suspending, but Surround, Center, LFE channel doesn't work (they just disappeared from mixer), Digital microphone array doesn't work...
Where I can find list of "model=" options for snd-hda-intel? Anyone knows it?

Blerg, Dell uses a different soundcard in each country they sell Inspiron?
If you run lspci -nnv | grep 'Audio Controller' what do you get?
00:1b.0 Audio device [0403]: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller [8086:284b] (rev 02)
I guess the number [8086:284b] says something about the model.

i have a different sound card (and laptop) but i had model=6stack-dig
but i still had the same problem with no sound sometimes after suspend untill i added "esd" to my /etc/rc.conf daemon list
but switched to oss4 now where you need to use a script to turn the sound off and on when suspending

I don't know what other 'option' you could use then... Maybe 'auto' but I'm not sure.
Just a curiosity: You said you have "Surround, Center, LFE" channels. How many jacks do you have in your Inspiron? Mine has 2 headphone output and one mic input (and the built-in mic and the built-in speakers). Using "option=dell-bios" I don't have Surround, Center and LFE channels, but I can control all these jacks.

I have 3 jacks on front panel of laptop.
Left to right:
1. Headphones icon, controlled by Front slider. On dell-bios it works as sound output.
2. Headphones icon, controlled by Center and LFE sliders. On dell-bios it doesn't work.
3. Microphone icon, output controlled by Surround slider. On dell-bios this jack works as external microphone input.
Also on dell-bios PCM Slider doesn't work.

When I use dell-bios, I have two 'Headphone' sliders and if I press TAB, I can control if I'll use an external mic or the built-in one (I also have to raise digital and capture).
I'm sorry, I think this doesn't solve your problem. I was just curious because I didn't know the microphone jack could be "rewired" to be an output.

Oops... looks like I am stupid. I just forgot to enable additional tracks in mixer.
On dell-bios almost all works fine (still without 5.1 sound system), but I don't need anymore. Now I have Digital and Analog (internal and external) microphones, all jacks works))))
Thank you all for answers)))
