It looks like id3 from extra can strip id3v1 tags, and apetag from AUR can remove them from APE. Let us know if they work. I just did a quick search of the repos.

I've never used any of this software and it took me all of 1 minute to figure out how to do it with each. Look at the respective web sites of these programs.

Just as a note (Sorry for pinging up and older topic, but this one of the very early google searches for this sort of thing), apetag, it appears, will not strip the APE tag off, but 'apetag -i <filename> -m overwrite' will remove all fields from the tag, which is 'good enough' for my purposes.

For id3(v1/v2) you can use "id3v2" from arch linux's extra repository

id3v2 -D filename

It deletes both id3(v1/v2) tags, or if you only want to remove id3v1 tag:

id3v2 -s filename
