Wireless atheros troubles. Again.

Hey, I am having some wireless problems again. I recently had a major update (Previous update was back in may), and it seems to have broken some things again.

lspci tell me I have an Atheros 5001g card. I am using the ath5k module.

At home I have a hidden essid, when I attempt to enter it into the wicd-client for a hidden network, it removes any networks that were there before and displays no networks. When I try to use netcfg2 with my home network profile, it gives me the error: Wlan0: Interface does not support scanning

Is there anything you can share on the subject?

Wlan0: Interface does not support scanning

To me, It looks like you need to 'pre-up' your iface before scanning. Something like

ifconfig wlan0 up
iwlist wlan0 scan

should do the trick.

They say that if you play a Win cd backward you hear satanic messages. That's nothing! 'cause if you play it forwards, it installs windows.

Re: Wireless atheros troubles. Again.

I can run iwlist wlan0 scan fine. I only get that error message when I try and run netcfg2 myprofile. My preffered way of wireless would be to use wicd + client. However I have a hidden network. When I try to manually enter in the essid, all the other networks dissapear from the wicd-client.

I only get the error "wlan0      Interface doesn't support scanning : device or resource busy" when I try and run netcfg2. After I get that message I have to run ifconfig wlan0 up before I can manually iwlist wlan0 scan

When I try to manually connect the last command I eu. Is dhcpcd wlan0. That command gives me the error "dhcpcd: wlan0: waiting for carrier" and then times out. Any help?

The trouble I have is getting the ip address. Even when I try to connect to unsecured networks through wicd, I get an error about not obtaining an ip address.

Hidden networks always cause problems and they are not much help in getting your network secure, try with a visible essid and see if you can connect.

Also disabling ipv6 may help as some routers don't play well with ipv6 enabled clients.

Re: Wireless atheros troubles. Again.

Here is my workaround: In a terminal I run

iwconfig wlan0 essid mynet54g

Which then reveals the network in Wicd-Client, which I can then connect to. So it seems like it may be a hidden network issue.
