Got the same message after upgrade too, so you are not the only one. I have not had time to troubleshoot but I'll post whatever I find as soon as I can.
R.
Update: A quick test revealed that although there is an error message my audio channel (the one being deemed as faulty) works.
Go to System Settings --> Multimedia and test the cards/channels.

i found this in wiki
"Falling back to default" messages when trying to listen to any sound in KDE
When you encounter such messages:
The audio playback device <name-of-the-sound-device> does not work.
Falling back to default
Go to
System Settings > Multimedia
and set the device named "default" above all the other devices in each box you see.

I have the same problem as you guys also, I put default above everything and still no go. For some reason logging in as root produces sound...I know that's a no no though.

I had to reinstall my Arch, and after launching WINE or Skype, all sounds fades somewhere. After I quit that apps still no sound. Just rebooting helps... Can someone help me?

I have same problem. If I launch wine, audio is lost with KDE apps. Even if I quit wine, there is still no sound with KDE. Any ideas how to fix this?
