Mouse stops working, Xorg still reposive...somewhat

Openbox + Nvidia

Problem 1)
The mouse will freeze, however I can use the keyboard to use all the programs I have open and new programs will also open.
Killing X results in just the wallpaper being shown, but I can not get back to tty1

Problem 2)
The mouse will get stuck to a window. If I switch windows using ctrl+alt+tab and then to click on the switched window, it does nothing or it will register on the previous applications interface. For example if I have thunderbird, then switch to terminal and click on a terminal tab, the click will register with thunderbird.
Killing X fixes the problem

This problems happen at random, sometimes when I startup X or sometimes 8hrs later. I have checked dmesg, xorg, and everything logs without seeing anything related to the problem.

This has been an ongoing issue fro the last month or so now.

Any help or suggestions to track the problem down would be great!

EDIT: this happens with vesa too

Re: Mouse stops working, Xorg still reposive...somewhat

Lately, problem 1  has just been occurring and I've only noticed it when I first start X. When this happens I can unplug the mouse and plug it back in and then everything is back to normal. So I suppose this must be some type of hal issue?

Same thing just happened here. Awesome and NVidia. Unplugging and the plugging in the mouse works here as well.

Hello pyther!

1) How did you try to kill X?
2) Did you try with other dekstop manager too, with open source nv driver? Is your xorg.conf okay ? Did you try the device with other PC/operating system ? Which version of kernel/driver/xorg do you use ?

Re: Mouse stops working, Xorg still reposive...somewhat

Lately I have been having the problem were the mouse will freeze and I can't do anything to unfreeze it. (Problem #1)

I have tried to kill X with c+a+backspace and also by using kill/killall
I tried the nv drivers but did not get far as it seems that those drivers are not supported with whatever I have (onboard)

After doing some more troubleshooting I have determined that when my mouse freezes, the kernel stops detecting all usb devices (such as a flash drive), however my internal card reader continues to work. With this discovery I believe that this issue is related it a usb issue in the kernel. I compiled 2.6.31rc6 and we will see what happens.

Yeah, but using unstable kernel is dangerous, becaouse maybe it will solve this problem, but can cause another one(s).

Maybe so, but in my experiences the rcs are pretty decent especially after a few rc releases.

Edit: Also if I was to report a kernel bug they would have asked me if it was fixed in the latest rc.

Damn, you just described my same problem since xserver 1.5. This occurs me in all distros or desktops environments i tested. I have to click second button on taskbar (kde) to recover windows focus. Killin X solves this issue but randomly appears. In my case i am using intel driver and a logitech mx 310 mouse.

USB stopped working on 2.6.31rc6 so I'm going to file a bug report.

Edit: Bug report: http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14026

For anyone with this issue you can rmmod ehci_hcd and then modprobe ehci_hcd, instead of having to reboot the computer.
