pkgbuilds: onscreend and osdsh

These two packages can be used to show your custom messages using xosd library.

Onscreend is a very small (but working quite well) program. Unfortunatelly it lacks some dynamic config features so you will have to patch it to make sure it will work on your system. The only critical change is the font name. I included an example sed command changing standard font to impact (nice condensed font).
If someone is going to include this in his repo it might be better to change the font to some often used font like helvetica or verdana and add a dependency for this font package. onscreend

pkgname=onscreend
pkgver=1.0
pkgrel=1
pkgdesc="Daemon and frontend for displaing custom messages on-screen using xosd library"
url="http://caladan.nanosoft.ca/onscreend.php"
depends=('xosd')
source=(http://caladan.nanosoft.ca/download/$pkgname.tar.gz)
md5sums=('c18ee9441c3033dddde8d788c1700f34')

build() {
    cd $startdir/src
    sed -i "/serpentine/s/".*"/"-monotype-impact-*-*-*-*-50-*-*-*-*-*-iso8859-2"/" ./onscreend.c
    make || return 1
    install -D -m755 ./onscreend $startdir/pkg/usr/bin/onscreend
    install -D -m755 ./putfifo $startdir/pkg/usr/bin/putfifo
}

Osdsh is a similar application to onscreend. It also includes two additional tcl/tk scripts that can help you with multimedia keyboard mapping and osdsh config. I didn't include tcl/tk in the dependencies because it's not absolutely needed and it's quite large package (you've been warned :-))

osdsh

pkgname=osdsh
pkgver=0.7.0
pkgrel=1
pkgdesc="Displays various information on screen using xosd library"
url="http://osdsh.sourceforge.net"
makedepends=('apmd')
depends=('xosd')
source=(http://dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/osdsh/$pkgname-$pkgver.tar.gz)
md5sums=('8537f342a9524bbfeacdde39320366de')

build() {
    cd $startdir/src/$pkgname-$pkgver
    sed -i "s//usr/local//usr/" ./Makefile
    cd $startdir/src/$pkgname-$pkgver/src
    sed -i "s//usr/local//usr/" ./config.h

    cd $startdir/src/$pkgname-$pkgver
    make || return 1
    cd $startdir/src/$pkgname-$pkgver/src/osdctl
    install -D -m755 ./osdctl $startdir/pkg/usr/bin/osdctl

    cd $startdir/src/$pkgname-$pkgver/src/osdsh
    install -D -m755 ./osdsh $startdir/pkg/usr/bin/osdsh
    install -d -m755 $startdir/pkg/usr/lib/osdsh
    install -m755 ./lib* $startdir/pkg/usr/lib/osdsh

    # additional tcl/tk script helpful with multimedia keyboard configuration
    cd $startdir/src/$pkgname-$pkgver/HOWTO
    install -D -m755 ./keymapconfig $startdir/pkg/usr/bin/keymapconfig

    # additional tcl/tk script for gui osdsh configuration
    cd $startdir/src/$pkgname-$pkgver
    install -D -m755 ./tkosdshconfig $startdir/pkg/usr/bin/tkosdshconfig

    # additional example theme files for osdsh
    install -d $startdir/pkg/usr/share/osdsh/themes
    cd $startdir/src/$pkgname-$pkgver/themes
    install -m644 ./* $startdir/pkg/usr/share/osdsh/themes
}

Re: pkgbuilds: onscreend and osdsh

It's a year or 2 later now,
and the onscreend website seems to be off line

just wanted to let you know

Re: pkgbuilds: onscreend and osdsh

But, five years after the first post, Arch Linux has different packaging guidelines.

1. We need an arch=(... line now.
2. We use $srcdir an $pkgdir instead of $startdir/src and $startdir/pkg
3. We can add tcl and tk to the optdepends.
4. We have an AUR now smile
