Does anybody have pcmcia and wireless working with the i586 iso? I have an old laptop (P133) I'm trying to use, but I can't get the pcmcia service to start. When I do "/etc/rc.d/pcmcia start", I get:
insmod: /lib/modules/2.4.26/pcmcia/pcmcia_core.o: No such file or directory
insmod: /lib/modules/2.4.26/pcmcia/i82365.o: No such file or directory
insmod: /lib/modules/2.4.26/pcmcia/ds.o: No such file or directory
cardmgr[196]: no pcmcia driver in /proc/devices
I am using an orinoco wireless card, the i586 iso (pre.7 release) and the 2.4 kernel. I have also installed the pcmcia-cs package.
Thank you!

it would appear that your kernel is not equipped with those modules so I would think you would have to recompile it ... which would be hard without internet access :?

the iso comes with the kernel sources I think.
Well, dunno about this 586 iso, but the normal one does.

ok. it is worth a look i suppose. there is also a recent thread about this elsewhere on this forum. in fact I think the member had a repo started that you may be able to use or help with. I suggest you search for the thread and contact that member for help(?).

I think you might be talking about me sarah
I did start a mirror of the repository, but only because there were some stuff missing from
the official one.
But the mirror won't help him I think.
You should try searching for documentation on compiling your own kernel on the wiki.
Just a note : I will be uploading some packages from extra to the mirror as soon as possible.

yeah I don't remember names very often so....
Just curious as to why I would want to search for kernel compiling docs? I don't even use Arch now and when I did I just used the stock kernel. My i586 box has a stock 2.6 kernel on there that Jason (Xentac) compiled when he was maintaining an i586 repo. ..... i could try and post that package or maybe Jason still has theat repo up somewhere.
Contact him to find out and if he doesn't i could probably send up teh kernel package I have (no guarantees though because I don't use that computer anymore at all)

sorry for the confusion. I meant that the person that started the thread should try looking for those docs about compiling their own kernel .
