mplayer and xine: "libXv.so.1 => not found" [solved]

I can no longer stream content or watch movies using gnome player (gecko-mediaplayer). I've tried installing various SVN versions of each player, and abs compiles, but no luck.

Specs as per signature. I'm wondering if this is something to do with a recent xorg update?

mplayer: error while loading shared libraries: libXv.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
[user@desktop Desktop]$ ldd /usr/bin/mplayer
    linux-gate.so.1 =>  (0xb7f18000)
    libXext.so.6 => /usr/lib/libXext.so.6 (0xb7ee3000)
    libX11.so.6 => /usr/lib/libX11.so.6 (0xb7dc7000)
    libpthread.so.0 => /lib/libpthread.so.0 (0xb7dae000)
    libXss.so.1 => /usr/lib/libXss.so.1 (0xb7dab000)
    libXv.so.1 => not found
    libXxf86vm.so.1 => /usr/lib/libXxf86vm.so.1 (0xb7da5000)
    libXxf86dga.so.1 => /usr/lib/libXxf86dga.so.1 (0xb7da0000)
    libGL.so.1 => /usr/lib/libGL.so.1 (0xb7cf9000)
    etc.
        etc.

Any ideas as to how I can get this file (libXv.so.1)? Or, any other suggestions as to why my firefox and opera streams (quicktime, asx, wma etc) have died?

Re: mplayer and xine: "libXv.so.1 => not found" [solved]

$ pkgfile libXv.so.1
extra/libxv

Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.

sultanoswing,

wonder used the tool pkgfile from pkgtools which is in community. It's a really useful tool for tracking down stuff like this. I highly recommend it.

edit your first post and change the thread title
