[Solved] Automatic reboot at boot during acpi load [x86_64, 2009.08]

Hi,

i can't get the archlinux 2009.08 (x86_64) netinstall cd to boot. While starting with the normal parameters it hangs after kernel init at acpi load.
When i run the kernel with the additional parameters:
noapic acpi=off nofb
the boot hangs while showing the
"io scheduler cfq registered"
message. With the 32bit image of the 2009.08 install cd i can boot properly.

My system:

Lenovo 3000 N500 (4233-77G)

Intel Pentium Dual Core T4200
Mobile Intel PM45 Express Chipset
NVIDIA GeForce 9300M w/256MB
320 GB / 5400 rpm
DVD Recordable
RAM: 2 GB x 2
Lenovo 11b/g WLAN
6-cell battery

TIA

I tried the ubuntu 9.10 live cd (64bit) and it started successfully.
So this is no general 64bit issue. I paste the kernel log from
ubuntu just to give you some information about the boot process...

Re: [Solved] Automatic reboot at boot during acpi load [x86_64, 2009.08]

The issue is now fixed. Adding nothing more than mem=4096m to the default boot parameters of the install cd makes it work.

For a background of this issue look here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour … bug/272530

By the while: the long downtime of the arch bugtracker is a bit weird

Re: [Solved] Automatic reboot at boot during acpi load [x86_64, 2009.08]

I'm trying to install archlinux i686 (from usb-memorystick) on my new zotac ion 330 system with 320gigs of 2.5" sataII hdd and 2gigs of ddr2 memory.
And it jams in here for me too "io scheduler cfq registered (default)"
Any advices?

Re: [Solved] Automatic reboot at boot during acpi load [x86_64, 2009.08]

Hey,

just to make it clear, in my situation it was like the following:

default boot parameters  ->  automatic reboot after kernel init while loading acpi modules
acpi=off noapic  ->  io scheduler cfq registered
mem=4096m  ->  everything fine

While i expect you just started with the normal boot parameters i would guess it's something related to ACPI and APIC.
First of all i would try adding this to the kernel parameters:

noapic acpi=off

In case it didn't work i would try some combinations of these parameters here: http://de.opensuse.org/SDB:Kernelparame … _ACPI/APIC

Good luck!

Thank you for your reply.

noapic acpi=off didn't help so far, i'll try something else.

Problem solved, usb-keyboard caused this (das keyboard).
I switched to logitech ps/2 keyboard and install boots now.
