logitech mx1000 battery status and settings

Hi,

For some reason, I can't get my Logitech mx1000 to show information in KDE 4.2. Although there is an exclusive tab for this mouse in the keyboard and mouse settings, every option is dimmed. After a lot of googling, I found this command

chmod 777 /dev/bus/usb/<bus>/<device>

where <bus> and <device> are the Logitech values from lsusb. After executing it, the tab in the keyboard and mouse settings shows my battery level but still the option to choose channel and resolution are dimmed.
Also, it would be nice if I could use the battery plasmoid with my mouse.
Any ideas?

Thanks.

Same problem here.

I don't want to change permissions as it's probably risky. The battery status is shown only when I'm logged-in as root. Is there a PolicyKit for it or something?
