Hi all.
I'm pretty new to Arch linux and absolutely loving it, but I'm having a problem with the latest version of KDE, and I am not sure whether it is me or a problem with KDE.
The problem is that occasionally when I close a program, it's taskbar "bar" remains open, i.e. the rectangle at the bottom of the screen with the programs name in it that you can click to give a window focus. The program is no longer running, I have checked the process list using system monitor. I am unable to select, close or remove it from the taskbar until I logout & login again or reboot the computer. I never had this problem with KDE 4.2. Has anyone else experienced this before?
Unfortunately I have been unable to reproduce the bug, it seems to happen randomly and for any program. I've done many google searches and haven't been able to come up with anyone with a similar problem. Any help anyone could give would be much appreciated. Thanks for your time.

Welcome to the forum, neutrix!
How often Is there this problem ? Can you see any related in xorglog/errorlog/syslog in that time ? Did you try to reinstall the whole kde ?

Thanks djszapi. During the course of a days work it tends to happen roughly twice. This makes it actually quite an annoying bug as it happens every day.
Something else that I forgot to mention is that when it happens, they appear on every workspace.
After going through the errorlog/syslog/xorglog I found no error messages at all in the relevant time frame relating to it.
I haven't yet tried to reinstall the whole of KDE, but that sounds quite drastic. Is there anything else that I could try first and if I wanted to reinstall the whole thing, what is the best way of going about it?
Thanks.

"I haven't yet tried to reinstall the whole of KDE, but that sounds quite drastic. Is there anything else that I could try first and if I wanted to reinstall the whole thing, what is the best way of going about it?" <- Yes, it's drastic but in some cases this is the only solution, i don't say the situation is here the same, but it's good to count with this. It's not a source-based distribution, like gentoo first of all, so not so much time to reinstall, but wait for a wiser/cleverer post.

I'm having the same problem, though not as often. So it's probably not due to a dodgy install of KDE, and then reinstalling won't help. I've 'solved' it by loging off, but you may also try to remove-then-add the task manager widget, or to just change one of the task manager settings.

Good ideas do not need lots of lies told about them in order to gain public acceptance.

I have a Geforce 8800GTX, using the nvidia proprietry driver version 185.18.36. I'm also running arch x86_64. As we have different cards it probably isn't a driver issue.

I can also confirm this bug, it's quite annoying. I'm right now experiencing it
I don't think it has anything to do with the graphical driver, but with Kwin itself not "detecting" the application's close signal.
