trying to compile songbird, but can't get mp3 support

I'm trying to get songbird to compile, and once I do it won't play mp3's.

I was reading on the songbird wiki that ubuntu requires some gstreamer*dev packages...  http://wiki.songbirdnest.com/Developer/ … bird#Linux

I am using the PKGBUILD from AUR http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=7286

Any thoughts?  Do I need extra libs or is it a config problem?

My guess is you need to install some of the optdepends (maybe gstreamer0.10-bad-plugins for mp3...).

Re: trying to compile songbird, but can't get mp3 support

here are the packages I have installed already:

gstreamer0.10 0.10.23-1
gstreamer0.10-bad 0.10.12-1
gstreamer0.10-bad-plugins 0.10.12-1
gstreamer0.10-base 0.10.23-1
gstreamer0.10-base-plugins 0.10.23-2
gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg 0.10.7-1
gstreamer0.10-good 0.10.15-1
gstreamer0.10-good-plugins 0.10.15-2
gstreamer0.10-pulse 0.9.7-1
gstreamer0.10-python-songbird 0.10.14-1
gstreamer0.10-ugly 0.10.11-1
gstreamer0.10-ugly-plugins 0.10.11-2
kdemod-phonon-backend-gstreamer 4.3.1-3

for those who are wondering, yes, the songbird-bin works fine and plays mp3's.  I still want to get this compile working :-)

Any chance you are using oss4? Songbird wont work with it and songbird devs get bitchy about it, when you do.

Quote from memory:

Use a proper audio framework like pulseaudio

In that case the answer is no smile

lol at pulseaudio being considered a proper audio framework... perhaps when they fix all their latency issues I will give it another shot.
