Hello!
I haven't troubleshooted much yet, so please forgive me as I don't have a ton of time right now. I upgraded to cups 1.4 and it will not detect my usb printer. Everything works fine in 1.3.11. I even removed /etc/cups to have fresh config and that still did not help.
I am not sure where to troubleshoot, but until the issue is resolve it might be a good idea to keep cups in testing.
EDIT: It appears that this bug might be related to my issue: http://www.cups.org/str.php?L3318+Qversion:1.4
Cheers,
pyther
Solved with the cups 1.4-2 pkg in testing. You may have to manually unload the usblp module until the devs determine if they want to blacklist it or remove it from the kernel.

Not sure if we were experiencing the same issue... but take a look at the bottom of my thread to see how I solved my issue with CUPS not detecting my printer. I ended up having to add it manually.

No it is not the same issue. cups 1.4 introduces a new usb backend which makes the backend provided by usblp obsolete.
See http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/15998 for more info

^^
Weird I am able to print with the new cups and with usblp loaded. Perhaps it was fixed in the new udev... I wasn't able to fix my issue before that release was pushed to the repos so I do not know if that fixed something on my end or not.

Well it is a LPT printer but I have it hooked up via a LPT to USB converter cable... not sure what that is considered.
