xf86-video-intel doesnt like my 945GME

I run Archlinux on an HP mini 1000
and have been having problems with anything and everything graphical.
Namely, even 2d games lag.
I get 6fps in super mario chronicles using

smc -d game performance

I get 132fps from glxgears, I do realised this is not a benchmark and all >.>

Here is my /etc/X11/xorg.conf

I appologise in advance if this question has been answered elsewhere, I did try look and followed the instructions in the other threads on similar topics but none worked for me. I also would like to appologise if this is in the wrong section of the forums.

Thanks in advance,

Re: xf86-video-intel doesnt like my 945GME

I have this model (well, the European version called Compaq 700) and I don't seem to have these problems. I run with the latest packages from [core] and [extra]. I have KMS enabled and I don't have an /etc/X11/xorg.conf file.

I get 344fps in glxgears (200fps with compositing enabled). I don't know how to use that game, but I tried your command line and started it, and it seemed to be like 30fps.

gtkperf runs in 22 seconds (without compositing).

Things used to be faster before KMS and using EXA acceleration. But they are acceptable now too. Maybe you can try without xorg.conf and see if that changes anything.

Re: xf86-video-intel doesnt like my 945GME

Thank you for your reply.
As far as I know, I do not have KMS enabled >.<

I think that when I do not use an xorg.conf I get a working x, but my keyboard doesnt work >.<
(this is with hal in my rc.conf aswell)

So I am not sure what is going on,
I would expect to atleast be able to play simple 2d games above 6fps and for flash videos to not lag.

Thanks for your reply,
Ducky

Re: xf86-video-intel doesnt like my 945GME

Ok so I followed the wiki using Xorg hotplugging,
copied one of the fdi files for the keyboard over for hal, moved xorg.conf and rebooted.
X worked fine, keyboard worked!!
But no mouse...
I happen to use a tiling WM (WMII) so I can get around without one, fired up glxgears and got 59fps.

Thanks for your reply though,
~Ducky.

Re: xf86-video-intel doesnt like my 945GME

It is strange. Same hardware and same packages should give the same results... Trying to find something different I realized that in your xorg.conf you use 1024x768 resolution, instead of the native 1024x600. But then if you've tried without xorg.conf and get the same results, I don't think that's the problem.

I don't think it's KMS either, though you could try enabling it.

Don't know why your mouse didn't work without xorg.conf. Do you have xf86-input-mouse installed?

Re: xf86-video-intel doesnt like my 945GME

Yes i do have xf86-input-mouse, I use it as my mouse driver within xorg.conf, but hal didnt seem to pull it in?!?

Grr this is driving me insane,
I just want 2d sad

I might have a look at kms then ....

So are you using xf86-video-intel or xf86-video-intel-legacy??

Re: xf86-video-intel doesnt like my 945GME

I'm using xf86-video-intel. All packages from core and extra. Nothing compiled by hand or from testing.

Maybe there are small and subtle differences in the hardware? Because otherwise it's not logical that you see these performance problems and I don't. Some people have seen their problems gone with kernel 2.6.31, It should be out in a week, so hopefully that solves your problems too.

Anyway, I post my X log and dmesg, in case you can spot something there that could give you a clue.

Re: xf86-video-intel doesnt like my 945GME

Thanks, I have yet to dig through them enough, but I will do that shortly.
I realised something today though:
I get 6fps via smc (natively in linux)
But I can play abes oddyssey just fine within wine...

Which to me seems like the opposite of the expected behavior?!?

Thanks again,
~Chris.
