I've been having a lot of problems with pacman recently.
The problems first started appearing a few days ago. Pacman has been slowing down for me over the past few days and today it finally came to a halt. The last package I downloaded was xbmc after which I could not run xbmc because "xbmc was not found". I haven't been messing with pacman's configuration or anything, but for some reason pacman is having difficulty synchronizing the package databases. I decided to run rankmirror a few minutes ago just in case it was the server, then tried running pacman -Syy...but it just hangs there with ":: Synchronizing package databases..."
I left it running for about fifteen minutes thinking perhaps my connection is being slow, however this is not the case as I am able to browse the web with normal speeds.
The only thing that I've done that's messed with my local network / internet connection recently was installing samba onto a media server box. I seriously doubt that would've affected anything though.
It just occured to me that I should probably try rebooting...so I'm going to post this and try that to see if it affects it at all.
EDIT: Restarting didn't change anything. pacman -Syy still hangs with ":: Synchronizing package databases...". ![]()
EDIT: I just fixed the problem, I uncommented all of the servers in the United States and tried pacman -Syy. Apparently the servers I normally use aren't working for some reason. Normally, I use mirror.rit.edu, mirrors.portafixe.com, gtlib.gatech.edu.

you can check the status of your mirrors here:

just FTR, using a http mirror or using wget instead of libfetch should solve this problem.

Ok this is my result: Pacman is slow with libfetch AND wget (tries to connect for 20 seconds before downloading, for every single package).
Using "curl" as XFER command solves it for me.
But why?
