one HD shows at sda and sdb [disregard I'm an idiot]

I recently installed Windows XP to see if some problems freezing had to do with my OS or my hardware. Now I'm trying to reinstall arch and when I go to partition my HD it finds two HD's one only 8 gb and I only have one 500gb drive. How can I merge them back together? My system won't boot into grub because it's getting confused and I suspect it's because my hardrive is fragmented up.

oh it was just my flash drive getting read as an HD

Confusion is always the most honest response, and I'm a very honest person

Without knowing more, I would try a Gparted Live CD. http://gparted.sourceforge.net/livecd.php

Hello blackfedora!

"My system won't boot into grub because it's getting confused" <- Did you try to reinstall grub from livecd ? What's the output if you try to use parted program from livecd, and print command inside it ?
