Hi, I'm not sure where to ask questions about kde-unstable repo, so I'll do it here. If you think it is inappropriate, please give me a correct direction.
The recent upgrade of qt 4.5.2-3 replaces phonon and does not depend on xine-lib, any more. I checked the backend list in kde system settings. And it only shows gstreamer. Is xine-lib backend no longer supported? Currently I only have
extra/gstreamer0.10 0.10.23-1
GStreamer Multimedia Framework
extra/gstreamer0.10-base 0.10.23-1
GStreamer Multimedia Framework Base plugin libraries
extra/gstreamer0.10-base-plugins 0.10.23-1 (gstreamer0.10-plugins)
GStreamer Multimedia Framework Base Plugins (gst-plugins-base)
Should I install all packages in gstreamer0.10-plugins?
And I also have a sound related problem. Whenever I login to kde, it says
The audio plaback device HDA Intel (AD198x Analog) does not work, falling back to default.
The same message appears, when I start amarok. What should I do with it?

Let me reply to myself.
Should I install all packages in gstreamer0.10-plugins?
I have to install those to be able to play any file in amarok. I guess same thing applies to juk and etc..

I moved default to the top in the audio output settings and the warning disappears. I'm not sure what exactly was causing this. Do you guys have any ideas?

There is some more information on this on the mailing list: http://www.archlinux.org/pipermail/arch … 12269.html

Some months ago I argued against removing the *option* of using gstreamer in phonon, since it did have some advantages for some users. One of those being less power usage (less wakeups in powertop) than Xine.
But it was ignored and if I wanted to use gstreamer I needed to compile and maintain my own phonon.
Now it's the other way around, gstreamer is the only option and if I want xine I need to compile and maintain my own phonon. And now with the phonon/gstreamer in qt I get a huge amount of wakeups in powertop.
Life's a paradox.
I still think the best option is to have a phonon that can allow users to choose what works better for them.

Don't worry. You will be able to choose between gstreamer and xine; its just not packaged yet.

That's great, thank you!

Can you package phonon-mplayer-svn? It works better than xine or gstreamer here. Thanks.
Excuse my poor English.

That would be excellent. I can no longer hear any sound after switching to kde4.3 from 4.2.4. I need xine because currently gstreamer isn't playing any sound for both of my sound cards.

Sorry, but i don't speak English...
I have the same problem. Only a diferent Sound Card (ATI HD), and i have solved the problem:
Install phonon-xine
In my case, this option solved my problem.

I referred to this post, http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=75546. Disabling the motherboard sound card to use the snd_ice1724 module and subsequently installing phonon-xine solved my problem. I did a fresh reinstall.
Perhaps I updated to kde 4.3 too early because phonon-xine wasn't in the repo. It should take a while before they sync.

For me amarok stopped playing music after today's update and the change to KDE 4.3.
My Xine backend was gone. Amarok is working again after installing "gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg".

Same problem here. Just solved by installing gstreamer0.10-plugins
Thanks for the tips!
