Is there ANY good video editing software for Linux??

I am at my wit's end. ALL I want to do is put picture-in-picture. Here's what I've run into:

Avidemux: Hardly actually does anything. Beyond trimming files, this thing's pretty much worthless.
OpenMovieEditor: Won't read my video files.
KDenLive: Annihilates my processor, and the sync goes off every time I trim clips
Cinelerra: crashes whenever I load any files.
LiVES: No idea if this does it, but the documentation seems to say no.

I'm about to lose my damn mind here. Is there anything I'm missing?

I find Kdenlive the best option here. It crashes though, mainly when loading *big* videos (HD mkv or like that).

Any idea why it can't hold sync on audio? Every time I trim a clip the audio goes off by a solid second or two, which isn't really excusable.

I've heard good things about Blender's internal video editor also. Other than that, I believe that Avidemux is the best in terms of stability, and it has some good plug-ins to. Hopefully the situation with FFmpeg's new improvements to avfilter will drastically change the non-linear video editor situation under Linux.

Avidemux, as I said, doesn't do picture in picture. Nor any of the other host of things I'd like to do with my clips. Thus, it's no good to me.

OpenShot looks pretty good, if a little green.  But this seems to be true of a majority of FOSS video editors.  Maybe the half that works overlaps with the half you need?

Blender's sequence editor can do picture in picture:

I wouldn't be surprised if there was a bunch of plug-ins that suit what you need, whether internal or third party.

I was playing with Kdenlive this weekend, and is really good, but is a cpu killer and crashes a lot.

Excuse my poor English.

I run kdenlive using a reasonable albeit quick system (see my signature).  It runs very fast and I haven't had a single problem with it, loading it up with effects.  It crashes when I try to do things that don't logically follow as far as I can tell.  Try adjusting the sync then, maybe it misaligns?

Do windows/hackintosh/mac solutions work better for you?

Try Pitivi, it has a limited set of features right now (no transitions, titles, etc.), but it works and it's stable. I find it very good, and it's early in development so more features are in the works smile It's in [community].
