Re: Realplayer problems

TUR are unofficial repositories containing packages not included in current/extra.
http://tur.archlinux.org/

To get realplayer, add

[link]
Server = ftp://ftp.archlinux.org/tur/link

to /etc/pacman.conf
Then

pacman -Sy realplayer

Re: Realplayer problems

Many thanks for that, I actually downloaded and installed them.

The next question is how to get it working as a plugin on mozilla-firefox. (Or do I need to be using a different browser?

Re: Realplayer problems

Well, I have made some progress, but can get no sound out.

I am using alsa, and kmix outputs sound fine.

Realplayer starts but with volume at zero, when I turn the sound up I get nothing.

Where is it trying to send sound to?

Any other thoughts?

Re: Realplayer problems

i downloaded realplayer from the real website and it worked as a plugin in firefox without doing anything,

i think realplayer uses oss so you must have alsa-oss installed, i just load one module for my soundcard and that works, it could be that your /dev/sound permissions are wrong,

arch + gentoo + initng + python = enlisy

Re: Realplayer problems

Ah, right.

I thought it might be an architecture problem.

OK, so I have alsa-oss installed, but I can find what I need to do with it afterwards other than putting
export OSS_REDIRECTOR=libalsatoss.so

in my .bashrc (Is that right).

It still does not work. I feel so close, and yet so far...

Re: Realplayer problems

Many thanks, got it in the end.

Ok, for some reason mozilla does not put all that is required in the pluginreg.dat. So you need to add/edit it to look like:

Many thanks, that was part of the solution. Basically now my pluginreg.dat for real player reads:

/opt/mozilla-plugins/nphelix.so:$
:$
1106069750000:1:1:$
Helix DNA Plugin: RealPlayer G2 Plug-In Compatible version 0.4.0.404 built with gcc 3.2.0 on Dec 14 2004:$
Helix DNA Plugin: RealPlayer G2 Plug-In Compatible:$
1
0:audio/x-pn-realaudio: Realaudio-plugin resource locator: ra,rm,ram:$
1:audio/x-realaudio: RealAudio file: ra,rm,ram:$

Then you also need alsa-oss and then modprobe the following:

modprobe snd-pcm-oss
modprobe snd-mixer-oss
modprobe snd-seq-oss

Which I have done in rc.local.

I hope that helps others too.
