Could someone please refresh my memory on what the improvements are in the .31 kernel, with regard to the open-source ATi drivers? (As I'm sure that I read somewhere that there are some)

Maybe this could help: http://www.h-online.com/open/Kernel-Log … ews/113958

Edit: Looks like no KMS support for r6xx-r7xx in 2.6.31, this should be done in 2.6.32

At LWN http://lwn.net/Articles/338063/  i found info about serious security hole in kernel:
* "A command stream checker for Radeon r3xx-r5xx hardware has been added to stop user-space processes from accessing memory outside of what they own."
* and good comment to it by elanthis: "Yes, but that was experimental code, not meant to be used by the general populace just yet and hence not enabled by default in kernel builds. The whole radeon-CP, TTM, DRI2, KMS stuff is all brand new, after all. Some distros have been enabling it by default, granted, but that's their security failing. smile"

The naming convention is (generally) to have the folder name indicate the oldest generation supported, eg r300 supports 3xx, 4xx, 5xx and rs6xx while r600 supports 6xx, 7xx and possibly future generations.

rbmorse, our focus right now is getting the 6xx/7xx code base solid so that we have a good starting point for future GPUs.

Well, now I don't find it refreshing.

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

It's alive! It's alive! smile
I've just compiled new 2.6.31 kernel  and it's working good with my catalyst-leaked, the only thing i had to change in my package was path to fglrx module (in my case - /lib/modules/2.6.31-ARCH/video/fglrx.ko  - which path should work with official arch kernel build too, i think)

so, the new catalyst-leaked package is here:
http://rs638.rapidshare.com/files/27811 … pkg.tar.gz
Edit (url update): http://www.mediafire.com/?wdjyznajyjy

I haven't change anything in my catalyst-utils-leaked which i used in 2.6.30, but it should work fine (no path changes needed for 2.6.31; works good for me), regarding to my previous post this catalyst-utils-package is here:
Edit (url update): http://www.mediafire.com/?ljdjodjii5y

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

@Vi0L0: You should think about uploading your files somewhere else. I can't download your -utils pkg because it has been downloaded more than 10 times. If you sent me the file or pkgbuild i could upload them on my own server or somewhere else.

I already uploaded the new catalyst package. Get it here if the rapidshare url isn't working anymore or you're tired of waiting: http://pgserv.net/pkgs/catalyst-9.10-1- … pkg.tar.gz

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

OK, so there is catalyst-utils-leaked and catalyst-leaked again, but now on mediafire.com (according to Wintervenom words, there should be no problems with this file hosting provider)

I've also uploaded my "aur" package (modified PKGBUILD and other files from catalyst 9.8 aur by kensai, with patched in  kano way catalyst (archive_files directory)) as catalyst_utils-leaked.7z

Here are md5sums of mentioned files:

b6dabbf7f372bbd8c6f04e0a40453110  catalyst-9.10-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.gz  (2.6.31-ARCH only)   http://www.mediafire.com/?wdjyznajyjy

a282e2a70052c110c7ac8e95650122c6  catalyst-9.10-1-x86_64-2.6.30.pkg.tar.gz  (2.6.30-ARCH only)   http://www.mediafire.com/?2mghmj5yihj

9148bbca2773507444d8efad62c331f6  catalyst_utils-leaked.7z   http://www.mediafire.com/?nnbnxm51ozy

Edit: Sorry for rapidshare, it won't happen again. Thanks rmbl.
Edit 2: url update

Ok - just wrote a mail to Eduardo (Kensai) - just to know if he is aware of the problem and if he needed some help.
I'm no developer, but perhaps this is the time to learn some packaging skills?

Those packages works for me better than my catalyst-leaked (no lack of performance on nspluginwrapper-flash), so i must recommand it smile

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

Am I completely wrong now, or is it the same if I upgrade to catalyst 9.9 or 9.10 beta? Will it support 2.6.31?

And one other thing. Been holding the latest xserver updates, will it break something or does it work with the 9.8 driver?

Hi! I realise this doesn't directly answer your question (ati user here as well) but you should check out this site for more info regarding ATI and their linux binaries: http://www.phoronix.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=19

Has someone solved the problem of slow resizing with KWin and Catalyst driver? If I use xf86-video-catalyst-maximize-fix I get a new and even worse bug: video garbage upon every object drawing.

Can someone set up a repository just as Kensaï did, please?
I don't like the idea of having build tools installed on my computer (as it is the first time I use archlinux) and upgrades would be easier for me.

If no one has time or the will to do that., I understand and I'll stick with the free drivers until binaries of catalyst are available.

I've builded those packages aspecially for you wink
Hope you are using x86_64 architecture.

Here they are:

catalyst-utils-9.9-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.gz    http://www.mediafire.com/?qljiya3ym3l   (md5: 802c6173940f842e7b5a2b6e072bc107)

catalyst-9.9-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.gz   http://www.mediafire.com/?zgytmw3dmjg   (md5: 65a0d9ab45f1d515bbbeefeadae74bc2)   <~~ for 2.6.30-ARCH only

catalyst-2.6.31-9.9-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.gz   http://www.mediafire.com/?wwmyjt2q0mz   (md5: 174b02d8efa5968edfa0ac16ce7601ff)  <~~ for 2.6.31-ARCH only

I'm pretty shure you are using 2.6.30-ARCH, but for shure type in your console: uname -r

Installing packages is as simple as typing those commands as root:
pacman -U downloads_directory/catalyst-utils-9.9-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.gz
pacman -U downloads_directory/catalyst-9.9-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.gz  (or pacman -U downloads_directory/catalyst-2.6.31-9.9-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.gz if you are using 2.6.31-ARCH)

Don't forget to do some changes in your xorg.conf config file (i mean add "Driver fglrx"), or do aticonfig trick.
Maybe someone could upload those files and make some sync repo smile ?

Greetz

Edit: I've installed this on 2.6.30-ARCH and it's working fine, enjoy smile
As I wrote few posts ago - patched for 2.6.31-ARCH fglrx module is also doing math (but only with 2.6.31 kernel), thanks again kozzi for 2.6.31 patch big_smile

thank you Vi0L0.

Unfortunately, I am not using x86_64 sad
I am using the current archlinux kernel, which is 2.6.30-ARCH I believe (I'm not on my computer tonight hmm)

I have to say I heard rumors about the great archlinux community, and I have to admit it's not a rumor wink

I would be glad to provide some feedback about the installation of these packages if someone can provide the i686 files.
Thanks for the step_by_step installation guide.
regarding the xorg.conf configuration, the french wiki about it seems to be good enough.
If I remember well, I have to uninstall something from the free driver first.
