ALPS GlidePoint moving by itself

Hi,
Since upgrade to 2.6.30.xx (don't know exactly when, I am currently using 2.6.30.5-1). From time to time, my touchpad/trackpoint is moving by itself, sliding more or less quickly on one direction or an other (mostly diagonal, down left or up right).

I found some threads on ubuntu with similar problems on thinkpads (I have a Dell Laptop). There it was suggested to add i8042.nomux=1 i8042.reset=1 on the kernel line during the boot. However this does not fix my problem.

I am not using any xorg.conf (only hal) and it used to work perfectly well with kernel 2.6.29 with the same settings.

usually that happens only when you used it continuously for some time (never took the finger off it) and the auto calibration mechanism kicks in... it suddenly thinks that its in its normal state when it's actually pressed downwards a little and starts to kidnap you mouse upwards for a few seconds and then it notices that it's actually back in it's normal state and stops moving away your pointer.

lemme know if the symptoms sound familiar

It used to be the way you described and I did not mind at all. But now it lasts much longer, it moves much faster, and I don't have to use it a lot before it happens.

I don't see any special option. Or is there one I should get rid of?

I have an Alps touchpad and I don't have problems you described, I've configured mine from scratch using man pages and it works great. So if you still have problems it could be a hardware issue... That is what we should find out...

And I had all kind of problems when Synaptics stood in the info instead Alps...

Ok,

Might be a hardware issue indeed. I noticed it happens more often when the laptop is warm.
I also configured mine from scratch And it used to be working well until a few days ago.
Plus I did not get the problem this morning (and no important updates since yesterday).
Weird...
