is apci package needed.

I am using compaq 6910p laptop. Is acpi package required? As of now its not installed.
I read here that acpi is needed for hadling certain acpi events

ACPI is used with the sleep and power button functions, hibernation modes, the lid closed switch functions, and battery or AC adapter modes. It is tied in with docking, sensors and fan control as well as cpu frequency and power saving programs. I imagine most laptop users would want those control capabilities to be available.

As with all things in Arch, its installation and use is left to the user.

These stuff are already working. without acpid installed. So I was wondering what extra will it can do.

I needed it for fan control on my desktop.  If things are working fine as they are, I'd go without ACPI.  That follows the Arch KISS principle.
