/usr/bin/rpcbind maxing out CPU usage on a transfered install

All, I recently migrated an Arch i686 HDD from one machine to another machine.  (Old machine was an Athlon XP and new machine is an Atom 330 based system).  It boots fine and everything works with one exception: /usr/bin/rpcbind maxs-out one of the CPU's which I can see in htop.  I can manually kill it, but it's unclear to me why it's apparently hung.

Glad to post any log files, etc. to help figure this out.

Thanks!

...is it ill-advised to switch HDDs and just run with it?  Is it better to do a fresh install on the new machine?

You just _may_ want to regenerate the initrd-file (to make up for different hardware) - other than that, it should be ok.

...how does one force the initrd to get rebuilt?

I believe the command would be:

 mkinitcpio -p kernel26

You may want to have a careful look at "man mkinitcpio" first though.

Thanks for the info, loafer.  I just did a fresh install last night which cured it.  I'll keep your suggestion in mind for the future though.

Re: /usr/bin/rpcbind maxing out CPU usage on a transfered install

I have the same problem.  When I copy (scp) files from my server over nfs to another box, rpcbind has a cpu usage fluctuating between 85 and 99% (there's also kcryptd which needs about 15% consistently, because the hard disk on the server is encrypted)

I only upgraded the kernel on the server a few days which caused the initcpio to rebuild, so any other ideas?
