I'd like to use YafaRay with Blender. I installed both with 'pacman -S blender yafray' but then when I started Blender and looked at the render options, there was no menu under the render button which allows the user to choose a rendering engine:
So then I uninstalled that YafaRay version with 'pacman -Rsn yafray', downloaded the newest YafaRay from AUR, built it with makepkg, installed that with 'pacman -U yafaray-0.1.1-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.gz', and retried Blender. Again, there was no engine option under the "Render" button. Does anyone know how to allow Blender to use YafaRay? Thanks in advance...

There used to be a control just below the "RENDER" button, where you could choose your renderer... I'll check it when I get home.
Some applications are WYSIWYG, and some are WYSIWTF.

Thanks! Yeah; I just figured that because there is no engine menu under the Render button, it must think I don't have Yafaray installed, but you bring up a definite possibility - that the menu was just moved to a new location.

Devastator: Did you get a chance to look at your Blender installation and see if the button had been moved? Thanks!

Hm... are there any other Blender users out there that could check to see if they have a menu directly under the "Render" button for choosing the rendering engine?

I have checked it, and in fact I cannot use Yafray right now...
Unfortunately I do not have time right now to try to solve it.

Actually, yafaray isn't bundled in the menu anymore, it's a script....
they are installed in /usr/share/blender/scripts/ .... just copy them to your scripts folder, default /home/USER/.blender/scripts , and they'll appear in the scripts menu.
btw, I'm using yafaray-svn from AUR....
EDIT: to know the scripts' name, just do a
pacman -Ql yafaray-svn
if u r using the svn version....

Yah, I just found that out, and wanted to write a solution . I reinstalled the blender, and got that message:
Therefore, you wanna copy everything from
/usr/share/blender to ~/.blender
BTW - I ended up with yafaray-svn too...
Some applications are WYSIWYG, and some are WYSIWTF.

Hrm... very odd... I switched to yafaray-svn from AUR (revision 348-1) and tried to copy contents of /usr/share/blender to ~/.blender but found that there was no ~/.blender directory. So I did the following as non-root user...
mkdir ~/.blender
cp -r /usr/share/blender/* ~/.blender/.
Then I opened up Blender again but there is still no rendering engine menu under the 'Render' button... (it looks the same as the screenshot in my first message) Any ideas?

They took off yafray from there.....
Now it's a python script, called through the scripts window...
It appears also in the render menu in user preferences' header, not in the buttons window. Only of course if you have them in your scripts path....

there are somehow "big" differences between yafaray and yafray (notice the 'a'), as you can read here: http://www.yafaray.org/documentation/us … on#history
edit:
installed yafaray package from AUR, copied script files from /usr/share/blender/scripts to ~/.blender/scripts/ and then I get yafaray running up, by choosing in the "Render" menu the "Yafaray export" option.

If people do not believe that mathematics is simple, it is only because they do not realize how complicated life is.
