im using kde 4.3.1/ archlinux 64 and i have a problem with my desktop refresh. It does not happen all the times but it happens frequently. The desktop doesn't refresh automatically and there's need of F 5 or right click----> refresh.
Is anyone else suffering from the same bug? Any solutions?? I'm thinking of temporarily installing fam..

Define "desktop refresh"
Also, gamin > fam. Install gamin if you dont have it.

when i say refresh , i mean exactly what fam or gamin does in a de which need them. for example if i download a file to desktop it does not appear until i press f5.
edit:
I have found a similar bug report
https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/ … bug/410494
i think that it's time for a kde bugzilla report.

i deleted plasma-desktoprc and plasma-desktop-appletsrc and the problem seems to be gone.
edit :
the problem remains.

as it seems, the problem is much more generic. i noticed that it sometimes happens inside dolphin in various folders inside ~/ .

it happens something very very strange. I do not know the mechanism that kde uses in order to refresh desktop, but i downgraded my kernel from kernel26 of testing to kernel26 of core, and also nvidia of testing to nvidia of extra.
seeing that nvidia driver is the same but built for testing kernel, the only thing changed is the kernel version.
and i ask :
is it possible that the new kernel is causing this problem?

reading the changelog of 2.6.31 from
http://kernelnewbies.org/LinuxChanges#h … 2d342527fb
i read about a reimplementation of inotify and dnotify on top of a new filesystem notification infrastructure, so it seems that this is the reason for the problem.
