I -Syu'ed this morning and pulled in a new copy of libldap from testing. When Claws-mail started nothing happened, so I tried to fire it up in the terminal, and received a "missing liblber.so" message. I downgraded ldap (and gnupg and gpgme) to the ones in core. Claws works again, as does slypheed.
Thought I would let the dev's know before they finalized the package and put it in core.

Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.

Ya.... perhaps reading them would help, too! lol I either missed reading that one, or it came into my claws-mail after I did the update. (Sometimes I get a little lazy and do not read all of the Dev's mail list.)
Thanks for the point towards the mailing list. I went back and reread the entry.

I did put "Warning" at the start to try and highlight it for people. Hopefully the rebuilds won't take too long, but you can always downgrade for a while.

I had the same problem when I did an update today. I wanted to start samba and start failed. Error was about missing files, libldap-2.3.so.0 and liblber-2.4.so.2. For now I did as root
cp /usr/lib/liblber-2.4.so.2 /usr/lib/liblber-2.3.so.0
cp /usr/lib/libldap-2.4.so.2 /usr/lib/libldap-2.3.so.0
and now everything works, but this solution isn't preety

Symlinking/copying libraries like this is a surefire way to hose your system eventually. Don't do it.
The proper way is to rebuild packages that are affected by the bump, or wait until they get updated in the repos.

Agreed. The authors of software do not just bump sonames to annoy us...

Thank you Allen!
I just noticed that libldap was rebuilt. Everything upgraded smoothly. Claws-mail opened nicely.
Splendid work, thank you again for all of your efforts!
