-Syu conflict

hello there! i don't know if this has been posted again and i'm sorry if it has.

prob is: did sudo pacman -Syu and got power cut off so now that i try to do it again it has kept the log that upgrades have been installed even though they haven't.

a while ago before some upgrades i was receiving an error asking me to delete a log file in order to do -Syu again but now i don't got one.

what should i change in order to make a clean upgrade other than waiting for brand new packages to come out there in the repos? tongue

cheers!

p.s. sorry for me being noob but i'm kinda new to linux but i'm trying

Re: -Syu conflict

I would look in your pacman.log and find the list of packages that were supposedly upgraded, then -Sf those specific ones.

Re: -Syu conflict

im guessing you're getting confused because you got a message at some point about removing a lock file so that pacman could proceed.  as far as i know the contents or existence of /var/log/pacman.log shouldn't have any affect on how pacman behaves.

you may be right that pacman thinks some packages are upgraded that aren't.  as per Daenyth, you might have to check that log and -Sf those packages (or just -S them, no?).

also, if you've got partially downloaded packages in your cache (depending when the power went out) you might need to clean some *.part files out of there (pacman may prompt about corruption and do this on it's own).

it's also possible that an -Syyu (two y's are intentional) might just take care of it; i'd try that first you may get lucky.  if you get the message about the lock file you can safely rm it if you're sure no other instance of pacman is running.

Re: -Syu conflict

after a lot of thought i guessed it would be proper i should read the pacman man. this is what i got; i did pacman -Qk and got some missing files at some apps. these are those which were to be installed. right? now what should i do? remove them and re-download-install them or?

Re: -Syu conflict

solved smile. i tried some remove and query combinations and it finally worked. can't recall which ones i used but i didn't need to remove and configure something. pacman did it smile. so everyone's got a problem with pacman should read the manpage which i didn't do first place. i should anyway thank the guys who replied to my post.

thank you guys! thank you ArchLinux and thank you pacman for being uber big_smile

cheers all!
