:? I was going to download Realplayer10 and wanted to ask a quick question first. --
Is there a certian directory it's supposed to go into, or will home be fine?
It seems in Linux there are varying views on everything!

If you want realplayer,
add:
[link]
Server = ftp://ftp.archlinux.org/tur/link
to your /etc/pacman.conf
then,
pacman -Sy realplayer
will install it automatically in the right location.

i have mine in /usr/bin and it works great,
i haven't tried links package yet though, didn't know it existed,
arch + gentoo + initng + python = enlisy

:? Snowman -- I did as you said and I'm getting " realplayer: not found in sync database."
I put "Server = ftp://ftp.archlinux.org/tur/link" on the last line of
/etc/pacman.conf file. Did I put it in the wrong place? -- thanks for the
reply -- Larry

Proper syntax of servers in pacman.conf is:
[link]
Server = ftp://ftp.archlinux.org/tur/link

lucke -- If your referring to the quotation marks I only used them in the message, not in
pacman.conf! -- Larry

I mean, that [link] label is crucial :-) You could also just wget ftp://ftp.archlinux.org/tur/link/realpl … pkg.tar.gz and pacman -A it.

lucke -- I added link and it worked. RealPlayer doesn't. How do I find out which
version was installed? The website says I need 10.5. I also tried a
download from the RealPlayer site, and it downloaded a executable file to the
desktop . I going to try your latest suggestion and pacman -A, but I'll wait until I
hear from you. -- Thanks for the reply -- Larry

As far as I can see, the newest version available for Linux is 10.0.2. It seems that only Windowers can enjoy 10.5 :-)

How do I find out which
version was installed?
pacman -Q realplayer
From the pkg name, you have the 10.0.2 version installed.
You can also try helixplayer (an open source version of realplayer) or
xine but I don't know if they will work in your case.

:? I tried to install from the website, the same version, and it asked me for the links to the
mozilla plug-ins. I think RealPlayer will work?, if I can link it to Mozilla?
Anybody know what is going on? -- Thanks -- Larry
I installed in /usr/bin.

i think you have to symlink nphelix.so to your firefox plugin dircetory. I was going to install this later so ill check.
from mozdev
1. Install RealPlayer 10.
2. Copy nphelix.so to your Mozilla plugins directory and nphelix.xpt to your Mozilla components directory.
3. Make sure a symbolic link to the realplay script is in your PATH.

I don't see a follow up on this, however, thought I might as well mention that I just tried it (with adding the link in pacman.conf) installed it and it worked without problem. (taht is, I didn't have to do any configuration afterwards, just pacman -Sy realplayer, installed it and when I clicked on a link to a realplayer video it played.)

Could you tell us exactly how your realplayer is not working?
I spent a little time messing around untill I figured ut you needed alsa-oss (sic) and that mozilla makes a mess of plugins for some web sites.
I did get realplayer working real good with no sound untill I discovered alsa-oss, then modprobed the right bits.
Kind regards

 Sorry everybody, I just got back from vacation.
I finally used pacman to remove all realplayer from the system and then again used pacman -Sy realplayer to reinstall it. All to no avail, if I click on a realplayer lead-in all I get is a blank pop up window telling me I need to install realplayer. Somehow or other the system does not know realplayer has been installed!
The good news is I installed m-player, and if I click on quick time, m-player works well!
I like to surf the NY times for news, and all they use is realplayer, no quicktime, so I guess
this gets solved or I miss half the pleasure of the NY Times.
All ideas will be appreciated. Thanks -- Larry

:? I don't know what is going on, apparently realplayer is working, real video isn't.
I think any video newer than the installed realplayer doesn't work, anything older does.
I'm pretty satisfied with Arch at this point, If you would like to comment, feel free!
