I am reinstalling arch, and decided to use oss to see if it really has better sound quality than alsa. I was following the wiki verbatim, when I got to running /etc/rc.d/oss start and my speaker is so loud and unbearable i had to cut the power from my machine. I added oss to rc.conf, so now my machine cant even boot without making this horrible sound.
1) How can I change rc.conf without booting?
2) Can I change the oss volume before starting oss?

I guess you can lock this, I am going to just reinstall.

lol can't you just unplug your speakers? or you could boot into a livecd and mount your drives and edit it from there... reinstalling is a bit over the top
