this is more of a rant than anything else - i've been bitching about this for a while, and so as alot of the internet too.
while i'd much rather use 'native' kwin compositing on top of kde4 instead of compiz, kwin compositing fails to give me consistent results performance wise. all kde dev's i've talked to point to the display driver; i guess compiz knows something about the display driver that kwin doesn't ?
compiz on my system is extremely snappy and feels very light. kwin does too - sometimes. usually right after i've started it, or after some change to it of some sort (i guess it restarts itself, then ?) .... after a while, moving windows around and other animations in general begin to get choppy and buggy ...
i'm sure i can't be alone experiencing this ... as someone found a solution to this ? isnt the fact that it starts out quick and gradually slows down not indicative of something that might be wrong under the hood ??..........

Which driver do you use?

Kwin4 is very slow for me on laptop with Core2Duo P8400 and GeForce 9300M GS (512M). Even simple window resize and moving are choppy. I switched to compiz. It is MUCH faster and there I can configure everything.

This bothers me, too. I'm currently testing out KDE but it feels very sluggish. Resizing windows, dragging them around, switching through workspace - everything is just slow. I also tried out compiz which was way faster.
My driver: nvidia 185.18.36-1
