Keyboard and mouse problems on bootup with the Dell Vostro 1510

Hello fellow Linuxians,

I managed to install Arch Linux on my laptop, but now I'm facing problems during bootup and when I start up Xfce4. This is not new, I had the same problem when I installed the Ubuntu variants on the computer. On those, the fix was simple to add i8042.reset to the like that starts with # kopt in the menu.lst so that the finished line looked like this:

# kopt=root=UUID=c10a4641-f9b2-8b06-7127-bb1ba1fe45d4 ro i8042.reset

Unfortunately, that line is not in the Arch Linux menu.lst and I'm still too new to Linux to be able to figure out how to fix it on my own.

Does anyone know how I can fix this problem?

Thanks in advance,
Soupstuffs

Re: Keyboard and mouse problems on bootup with the Dell Vostro 1510

I have a Dell Vostro 1310 and had the same problem in Ubuntu but never with Arch. You could try to just add i8042.reset at the end of the kernel line:

kernel /boot/vmlinuz26-ARCH root=/dev/.... ro i8042.reset

I'm curious because I had this problem with Ubuntu and Fedora, since I've tried Arch I never had this problem - not once...

I was convinced that worked because I was able to log on three times in a row without any mouse or keyboard problems, but alas, I was wrong. It's still giving me the same exact problems. I was just lucky three times in a row.
