The Open Sound System is not working

I have installed and configured OSS following the Wiki, but I still get no sound. Any idea of what problem this is?

Thanks in advance.

Re: The Open Sound System is not working

What Desktop Environment are you using and what does "ossmix" in console give you?

OSS works wonders for me, clear and crisp so I hope you get your issue solved!

Re: The Open Sound System is not working

I run KDE too and it looks like oss recognizes your card.  Open up ossxmix and see if music programs are producing any sound.  If not, goto System Settings, then Multimedia, and see if OSS is at the top of all your priority lists.  Also, try switching backends to see if you get anything.  Good luck!

Re: The Open Sound System is not working

Amarok is playing the musics, but I get no sound for that. Also, kmix's window is now empty.

Re: The Open Sound System is not working

kmix doesn't support OSS. You need to set phonon backend to gstreamer in order to hear sound from the kde native applications.
According to the wiki you could try switching backend to xine.
Also have you installed any gstreamer packages?
(I have oss4 with kde with xine backend...)

I only hear from my front too, but it plays on all my sides.  In ossxmix is everything turned up?

I've already done that. Amarok plays fine, but I hear no sound.

Not gstreamer nor Xine work. Same issue: "virtually" is playing, but, physically, it is not.

Yes. All of them, I guess.

I think I wasn't very clear, so let me explain my problem better: ALSA works perfectly here, but I want to switch to OSS. I installed it, following the steps given on wiki. But, when I restart, I get absolutely no sound.

Using:
- KDE 4.3.1 from the official repo.
- The most recent 64 bit Arch
- On a Vostro 1400

Yes.
