Hi.
I am configuring old laptops with Arch. Now I run into a problem with a 10 year old laptop - the bios battery is dead. And each time I reboot I have to set the time/date manually. I am able to do this in many ways, but all through the console or bios.
I am looking for a solution to do this user-friendly. It runs LXDE and the digital clock applet does not have the feature to change date/time.
What are the suggestions to make sure the user can change time by herself without going into the console? I was thinking of 3 different solutions:
A) Is there maybe a way of doing this a boot-up (a question that is asked for example: please set time and date).
B) Or can I replace the digital clock applet in LXDE?
C) Or is there a configuration editor I can use to do this in a GUI?
Looking forward to your suggestions

if you are net connected then you could use ntp theres instructions in the wiki
http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NTP
you could even run ntp server on your lan and update from that.

thanks! but one of the other problems indeed is that the connection comes after boot-up and is done manually...

I think the user-friendly way is the new battery.

+1 to that
Besides a 10 year old laptop could use a good cleaning inside so it's a good chance to do both things.
