VIA VT8233/A/8235/8237 5.1 settings

I use my computer for both games on windows and work/everything else on linux. I bought new 5.1 speakers and I managed to get the soundcard to output 5.1 on windows through the drivers. Now, I'm trying to do the same on linux and I'm having a few problems. I don't wanna change the way everything is plugged since I don't want to have to take care of cables when I boot on an other OS.
Through alsamixer, I was able to select 6 channels for my soundcard, but speaker-test -c 6 -D plug:surround51 -t wav doesn't give any good results, nor does the THX test on DVDs: there is no output for center and the back speakers.
I am using "simple" alsa, no pulseaudio.

If anyone has already used such a setup and knows how to configure things, I'd like a little help
