Managed to install Arch on my quad core desktop.
Trying to install gnome and kde/kdeMOD has me really stumped.
Till before using yaourt to unsuccesfully installing catalyst - I am gonna try xf86-xorg-ati on my 4850 before trying again. it was working all great.
Now pacman just fills its entire cache dir (27GB) in about 4 minutes. It just hangs and stops downloading a package in the big group listing and then complains that it has no space left.
What is this?? I'm using XFS on an up to date install and have tried locating the cache dir on another JFS partition with 150GB free but still did the same thing.
Whats up?

Hi, there is a very similar thread here:
All men have stood for freedom...
For freedom is the man that will turn the world upside down.

Is it the same problem as this post? http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=81134

Yes but the patched pacman doesn't seem to install on my brand new system because of libdownload>=1.3
I've tried different mirrors but it all fails for large package lists in the end.

Not sure which version you are referring to, but as Xavier said in the other thread, it shouldn't. As a different workaround you could switch from the internal download to curl or wget, look for XferCommand in pacman.conf.
