This has been driving me crazy for months. Out beginners guide should have an apostrophe after the s to signify plural possession. I would have changed this myself, but I don't know how or if I can. Perhaps we should make it so searches for "Beginners Guide", "Beginner's Guide", and other variations redirect to the correctly titled article. How can I do this, or will someone who can do so?

From memory, there were (and maybe still are) issues with apostrophes in wiki titles

I really think more attention should be put towards proper grammar, syntax, and spelling in the wiki. It really helps with the clarity and professionalism of our documentation. I try to correct these errors when I see them, but it would be so much better if they were just written correctly in the first place.

Yes, please do. Though I am a perfectionist, I can't say I know what gets done correctly in the first time around. Plus their are also a lot of varied nationalities around.

Exactly.

You're right. Consider that some people who write wiki articles don't have English as a first language, therefore errors happen sometimes. Can't the beginners' guide (there, I did it too ) be edited by anyone?

"Beginner's Guide" seems more correct to me than "Beginners' Guide". But I'm no native speaker either, so I could be wrong.

Is it one beginner or many beginners?

Neither, we're all l33t h4x0rs here.
Joking aside, singular seems better (to me at least).

I personally find "Beginners' Guide" to be the best option.

I personally think the discussion is a waste of time given the wiki does not like apostrophes in titles...

Exactly.
BTW, Beginners' Guide is correct. It shows the plural possessive form, (a guide for beginners).
I tried in the distant past to change it, but it caused major problems, (like showing as an empty article).
Not that anyone would notice, but I refer to it as the Beginners' Guide when mentioning or linking to it in the forums. :)

Then do what wikipedia does. If a page is incorrectly titled due to technical reasons they put a notice.

Oh, I didn't know wiki titles don't like apostrophes. This error is so minor that a notice would only cause more confusion, so I guess we could just forgo the apostrophes in the titles but keep the grammar correct (to the best of out abilities) here on the forums and in wiki articles. Maybe an update/modification to our wiki software could fix this?

How about changing the name to "Beginners' Guide" to add the apostrophe to the title?

If the titles are properly escaped, then the title will remain "Beginners' Guide" -- the entity will not be replaced with an apostrophe.

Well now the apostrophe is backwards, and that's just weird. That was pretty good, though.

yay! Perfect! Thank you for your wiki magic, Acecero!
Just clean up the redirection mess to get rid of the backwards apostrophe page and we'll be golden

I think the Beginners' Guide is a little weak to be considered a full handbook; the entire wiki, now that's a totally different story. Arch documentation encompasses all the pages in the wiki. I'm sure you've used pages other than just the Beginners' Guide. Recently I found the Arch Wiki Table of Contents (linked on the Main Page), which I now find very useful.

Can somebody fix the spelling of beginners guide on http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Main_Page please?

Hmmm... I don't seem to be able to as a normal user. Can anyone else?
Also the "or try" just before the link to the Official Install Guide is not bolded, and it sticks out as different from the rest of the sentence.
