Running Arch on an SD card?

I am to buy the gecko edubook, a fanless netbook running on AA-batteries, and it's main storage is an SD card. It's also possible to insert a hdd/ssd.
How long will the SD survive? Should i use some special options or can i use it just like a normal hdd?

Re: Running Arch on an SD card?

SD memory might last 1e6 cycles, but who knows how many cycles will take one single bit. So for the good sake I'd suggest to read the Acer Aspire One Wiki. smile

Reading that i came to the conclusion that it'll be enough to put /tmp in ram. We'll see if I'll do that, I'll only have 512mb ram.

Re: Running Arch on an SD card?

I installed Arch on an UFD, as it would be on the hard disk.
I can plug it into many PC and it boots flawlessly. Then I gave /tmp and /var/log in ram. So far no problem, If the host PC has a swap partition then it will get the chance to mount it. WIth some program in the UFD it would take about 4 Gb, SD card aren't so available of such capacity.
