something wrong with mysql installation

I downloaded the newest source code of mysql and then compiled install  it in /usr/share/mysql and  everything goes well,next, i copyed the surporte-files/my-medium.cnf to /etc/my.cnf and modified some data,run mysql/bin/mysl_install-db --user=root,cp the mysql.server file to /etc/rc.d/mysqld.but when i run /etc/rc.d/mysqld start,it show the wrong msg:Manager of pid-file quit without updating file.

i dont know why,and i cant find the msyql log files
omeone can help me ?thanks

Why didn't you install it using pacman? Follow the Wiki and everything should be spelled out and run fine.
