I installed WordPress 2.8.4 on my lamp server. I have a simple website up on the server, and wanted to add WordPress.
The install it in my servers /var/www/blog and all was good, had things working on my local network. I wanted to make it available on the www, so I changed the WordPress and Blog address URL's in the General Settings page.
I changed them from http://serverslocalip/blog to http://www.jeffstory.org/blog.
I tried to access it through http://www.atunnel.com/ and can't get to my WordPress, http://www.jeffstory.org/blog. I realized that once I changed the URL from local to www, I wouldn't be able to access it unless I went out out, then back in using atunnel. Same thing if I try to goto http://www.jeffstory.org from within my local network.
If I point my (local) browser to my server's local ip, I can get my web page as normal. If I click my "home" or "blog" links, I get redirected to my router log in which is normal...
How to correct what I've messed up?? Do I have to get into the database and change things, or an easier fix??
How do I correctly set up wordpress to be reachable from www?

is /var/www/ the physical directory where your main site jeffstory.org is placed (so not symlinked or in a subdirectory)?

Hey, thanks for offering to help me out litemotiv.
I 've solved the problems.....and nothing to do with WordPress. I'll give the short version................
I was using a URL redirect service at Yahoo... The redirect didn't work with Wordpress.
I canceled the redirect and edited my A records so my domain name resolves to the real WAN IP of my server.
