Kernel 2.6.31.3 with KMS broke AIGLX

The latest kernel upgrade broke AIGLX for me (Radeon X1400) and Compiz stopped working. I use the latest xf86-video-ati-git from the AUR.

(EE) AIGLX error: Calling driver entry point failed
(EE) AIGLX: reverting to software rendering

In addition I got annoying horizontal lines running across the screen in both X and in the console. I had to disable KMS according to the instructions in the wiki. Anyone else have this problem?

I'm not running 2.6.31, but have a radeon 3200. I thought radeons were meant to use "AccelMethod EXA"?

Re: Kernel 2.6.31.3 with KMS broke AIGLX

I did read the wiki. That's where I found the instructions on how to disable KMS. It does not mention anything about possible AIGLX breakage, though.

Also, I cannot quite grasp how EXA relates to all this. AFAIK, Compiz uses OpenGL (via AIGLX) for rendering. I did not notice anything wrong with Metacity (with AccelMethod "EXA"). Direct rendering seemed to work in general as well. The horizontal lines running down my screen did bother a bit smile

But okay, I'm fine without KMS for the moment.

They'll all should be fixed after Mesa 7.6 hits extra.

Thanks. I suspected something like that.

I also found discussion about the subject here:
http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/16149

So basically enabling KMS by default now breaks some things since it requires newer versions of mesa (and libdrm) than currently available in the Arch repos.
