Update to Kernel-2.6.31 a TTY problem

Well I decided to try the kernel in testing a try.  Because of the exploit in 2.6.30 I decided I wanted to give this a try as soon as possible.  When I booted I couldn't get to the KDE or even to console.  I wanted the new kernel for better security but dependability is much better.  What good is a kernel that doesn't boot?  Arch has always been good on security so I'm not worried about that but this whole tty thing is a mess.

For a good ways down the road, I'm not even going to update my kernel.  I put the line in pacman.conf and am not even going to worry about it.

Hard for readers to guess what your problem might be based on those details. Good luck running a frozen kernel as everything else gets updated.

2.6.31.2 or .3?  I seem to recall that .2 had some tty issues, but that has been updated .

I tried the .2 version.  I've never had luck with .3 releases though, for somereason they've always turned up cruddy.

Yeah yeah... Oy!... didn't see that.  Thanks for the link.  Eye had and error like that too, except instead of tty[0-9] mine said 'tty225', or was it 'bb5', don't remember.  I'm ok, with the earlier version.  I should learn to say no like that.

No, I haven't tried it yet.  I'll try it later today and get back.

Re: Update to Kernel-2.6.31 a TTY problem

Ok, I tried 2.6.31-3 and got to boot with console and GUI.  Unfortunately, I got weird stuttering effects when playing videos.  Maybe Linus was right when he said the kernel is now bloated big_smile.  Think I'll go with 2.6.30 for now.
