Why I switched to Arch Linux.

Lots of reasons:
* wanted to try uzbl
* rolling release
* ease of configuration
* excellent wiki

Currently also on this system:
* Debian Lenny
* Squeeze (for testing, will remove soon)
* Win XP
* Minix (VM)
* Haiku (VM)
* Plan 9 (VM, used to run it bare metal but that doesn't seem like a good idea)

Currently using test Arch partition (~6GB allocated) and will move to 12GB as my primary desktop OS.

cool

One thing I miss from Debian is the ability to search package contents. Example. Is that available here as well?

Not sure if this is what you're looking for but "pacman -Ql package" will retrieve a list of the files installed by a package.

Thanks,
Jamie

Re: Why I switched to Arch Linux.

pacman -Ql will tell you what's in a package you have installed. If you're interested in something that hasn't been installed yet pkgfile which is in pkgtools can take care of that.

And welcome to Arch.

Re: Why I switched to Arch Linux.

He'd like to have this without having to install the package first. (like pacman -Sl package) I think there is a tool on AUR for that.

Re: Why I switched to Arch Linux.

There is a tool called "pkgfile" in the community/pkgtools package that does this.

Re: Why I switched to Arch Linux.

I've been using archlinux since 2003 comming from gentoo. Coincidently I've also used debian till 2001 and loved apt though for it to be perfect the testing repo should break less. I've fallen in love with archlinux because it was KISS, rolling release and felt like debian testing but more stable, without compromising bleeding edge.

I'm also a recent fan of plan9 and run it inside qemu in archlinux. It's quite a totally different geek toy!

On the other hand haiku is becoming a nice beos clone but I don't really enjoy its outdated interface (even for a minimalist like me).

Re: Why I switched to Arch Linux.

The simple design, small base install, and pacman drove me to arch. Ive grown fond of the wiki as well.

Shouldn't uzbl work on any distro?

Re: Why I switched to Arch Linux.

I guess it's only prepackaged for Arch yet, and it may require up-to-date deps (a pain on Debian tongue).
