Hi bkal26,
a few questions:
1> Do you have a video card ? If so, what.
2> Is it the desktop that is unresponsive; is internet browsing slow ?
3> Do you have Compiz installed + running ?
Have you looked for error messages in the "/var/log/" files ? Do any give a hint
as to the problem ?

Hi deej
the glxinfo output is:
name of display: :0.0
display: :0 screen: 0
direct rendering: Yes
server glx vendor string: NVIDIA Corporation
server glx version string: 1.4
the desktop is responsive but very its responsibility is so slow. My internet browser is working normally and connection speed is very good.
i didn't install compiz.

When you installed the nvidia driver, did you run: "nvidia-xconfig --add-argb-glx-visuals --composite" ?
If not, press alt+ctrl+F1 to drop to another login screen; login as root and type:
nvidia-xconfig --add-argb-glx-visuals --composite
...then type 'exit'; ctl+alt+f7 to get you back + reboot.
Did you notice anything bad in /var/log/ ?

In that directory ( /var/log/ ) you'll find all the log files for your machine.
In the case of video, Xorg.0.log or (Xorg.log) is the file you need to look at.
As explained at the top of the file, (EE) [ error ] is the indicator you want
to look out for. You may get a few (WW) [ warnings ], but they, generally,
are harmless.
You could browse thru' the other files as well, just to become acquainted -
note, that with files that appear to be empty you may need to be viewing
tham as 'root' to view the contents.
Hope this helps...

Might want to check that as well, unlikely to be the problem, but if it is you'll really notice the performance increase.
