newbie need help here

Hello

I am very new for installing arch linux.I need a guide like how to install arch linux and how to install gnome desktop?I tr to get away from ubuntu linux.

Hope someone can help me.

Check the beginner's guide[recommended].  I wrote a guide of the most basic way to install without much explanation for a few impatient friends of mine.

I haveing a hard time try to get this to start /etc/rc.d/hal start for some reason i following this guide.

Please note that with the newer version of Xorg it is not necessary to create the config file, just make sure Hal is running.

i  get this error

error: unresolvable package conflicts detected
error failed to prepare transaction (confflicting dependencies)
::gdm: conflicts with fast-user-switch-applet

i get that when i try to install gnome-extras.

hope somone can help.

Gnome is undergoing changes now. You should first sync your mirrors and upgrade your system before installing anything.

pacman -Syyu
