kernel 2.6.31 breaks system. How to downgrade to 2.6.30?

Hi,
Issues I am facing.
1. System not waking back from suspend to RAM.
I Had this issue in kubuntu karmic. But they seems to have fixed this.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour … bug/429241

2. In kde plasma freezes for a few seconds when mounting usb disk.

Can any one tell me how to downgrade to kernel 2.6.30. I had no issues with this kernel.

Thanks
Jithin

Please also read the start of the wiki about thinking why you're downgrading. Are you going to hold kernel at 2.6.30 indefinitely?

Not indefinitely. Until updates are available for atleast the suspend issue It might be part of 2.6.31.4. Until that I will hold on to 2.6.30.

I had problems too.  Just FYI but you'll also need to downgrade kernel26-firmware too.

I'm having similar issues with the kernel. I was getting complete system lockups after a couple of minutes. Rolled back (but not the firmware) and everything seems to be working again.

Mine was not complete lockup. It occured only during suspend. I downgraded the packages including firmware and added kernel26 and firmware package to IgnorePkg.

I opened a bug report http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/16580

Re: kernel 2.6.31 breaks system. How to downgrade to 2.6.30?

I see a newer kernel (2.6.31.4-1) is available just a couple of days after 2.6.31.3-1,

I never took the 2.6.31.3-1 update.  Too many people were having problems with it.

Hopefully 2.6.31.4-1 will fix some of the issues.

I think a fix is included. Please see http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/g … ;a=summary

I am also having issues with suspend - actually, suspend works fine, resuming doesn't work.

Re: kernel 2.6.31 breaks system. How to downgrade to 2.6.30?

I will still stick with 30 for the time being. In 2.6.31 the usb issue is too annoying. It just freezes the whole plasma for a few seconds. With 2.6.30 kernel that issue is not there at all.

Thanks
