hello, i upgraded today to gnome 2.28 and it seems that gdm doesn't recognise my laptop's keyboard (or any other usb keyboard I plug in) so i can't login
any ideas?

I am having a similar problem. Through trial and error I found a way to make my Acer laptop sometimes let me login. During boot up I hit the scroll lock to stop the boot sequence. If I do it 5 or 6 times, it sometimes makes the keyboard work in the gdm.
Sadly I need this laptop for a huge test tomorrow. I should never have done the upgrade!

solved! i had configured my keyboard in xorg.conf
I commented out the option: "AutoAddDevices" "false" in xorg
and created a hal .fdi file for the keyboard like this:
cp /usr/share/hal/fdi/policy/10osvendor/10-keymap.fdi /etc/hal/fdi/policy/
and edit 10-keymap.fdi accordingly
more info here: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xor … figuration
hope this helps
by the way is this a bug? shouldn't both configurations (hotplugging and old school xorg) work?

Thank you so very very much!
:):) That fix worked for me.
I will not be updating again until after my Dogmatics test. I foolishly did not follow my sop and wait at least 2 weeks after a major version update to a major part of the os.
Yes it is a bug. Both ways should work. But this seems to be a laptop bug, so it may not have come up. Do you have a Acer laptop?
