fast-user-switch-applet

I tried running a -Syu this morning.

Pacman refused to proceed unless I agreed to remove fast-user-switch-applet and replace it with something called extra/gdm.

I'm imagining that this is OK, otherwise it wouldn't have gotten into the update, but I'm taking a guess that pacman wants to update my Gnome desktop, and that fast-user-switch-applet has been superceded by something else. Am I close? I'd just like to know a bit better what's going on before I say Y.

Thanks,

Eddie

Re: fast-user-switch-applet

Yes the fast-user-switch-applet was merged into the gdm package. You shouldn't worry about it but for future reference when in doubt you should check arch's svn logs for info about these merges.

Re: fast-user-switch-applet

Thanks; the update went well and Arch is probably even more stable and perky than ever now.

I'm curious about searching the SVN logs, though; are those the things I find in http://repos.archlinux.org/wsvn/community/ and http://repos.archlinux.org/wsvn/packages/ ? I tried looking for fast-user-switch-applet and couldn't find it, which made sense because it might have been removed from the repos, but I couldn't find "gdm" or "gnome-desktop" or "gnome"-anything, or "emacs". I had the feeling that I'd stumbled into a space that was of most use to developers. Likewise, anything I turned up in the Wiki about svn seems oriented to those more accomplished than myself.

I guess I need some guidance here: am I looking in the right place for package news and should just be patient and learn how to use it better, or am I wandering down a wrong path?

Thanks,

Eddie
